Eighty years ago, Alfredo Agostini established a small olive press in Petritoli, a picturesque village nestled between the Sibillini Mountains and the Adriatic Sea, in the central Italian region of Le Marche.

Today, his sons and nephews run Frantoio Agostini with the most advanced technology and exports extra virgin olive oil to more than 15 countries.

The first olive trees were planted in 1989 to create job opportunities for seasonal workers during the months between the grape harvest and the pruning of the vineyards. 

Kloovenburg’s first Olive Oil was pressed in 2000. Our Extra Virgin Olive Oil is cold-pressed and is not blended or chemically treated in any way.

At Kloovenburg, we use only our freshly picked olives for same day oil pressing. This explains the variation in taste and colour that sometimes occur as different cultivars are used for pressing.

Every journey begins with a single step. André Verder took that first step in 2002, when he fell in love with a piece of land at the foot of the Langeberg Mountains near Swellendam.

The advantage of having started less than a quarter of a century ago, is that we could benefit from the latest techniques for planting trees: high-density orchards, with trees reaching no more than 3m, so that the branches and fruits receive the maximum exposure to sunlight, which translates into healthy and full-flavoured fruit.

It all began in an old oil mill in the heart of the city of Alghero, Sardinia. It was 1916 when the Manca Family, one of the oldest olive oil producers in Italy, started its milling activity.

In 1975, after years of hard work and profound passion, the San Giuliano brand was created.

San Giuliano obtained five awards at the 2023 NYIOOC, with the Fruttato and L’Originale brands winning two Gold Awards.  Both these products are available exclusively to Jezreel Olive customers in South Africa.
